The Lutherans Dodge a Bullet

By rejecting the ordination of gay bishops, and refusing to sanction ceremonies for gay couples, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) has managed to escape the turmoil that is threatening to split the Episcopal Church in the United States. I suspect the battle is far from over, though, as the end of the article makes clear:

The ELCA task force still has a major project ahead: It is scheduled to develop a statement on human sexuality that will be presented to denomination's the 2009 meeting.
This report could touch off the powder keg all over again.
