The Unfortunate Moniker

Let me share just a little about myself. Some of you may know, some of you may not, that I have an affinity for bats. I think they are absolutely amazing. To that end I have been a supporter of Bat Conservation International for a long time. They are not too out there, and they take a reasonable approach.

Bear with me here while I sound like a liberal for a second, but here are some bat facts..

Bats are the only known group of mammals that can fly.

The nearly 1,000 kinds of known bats account for almost a quarter of all mammal species and most are highly beneficial.

A single little brown bat can catch 600 mosquitoes in just one hour.

A colony of 150 big brown bats can protect local farmers from up to 18 million or more rootworms each summer.

The 20 million Mexican free-tails from Bracken Cave, Texas, eat 250 tons of insects nightly.

Tequila is produced from agave plants whose seed production drops to 1/3,000th of normal without bat pollinators.

Desert ecosystems rely on nectar-feeding bats as primary pollinators of giant cacti, including the famous organ pipe and saguaro of Arizona.

In my view, bats are awesome…someday I hope to visit the Carlsbad Caverns and see the mass ascension.

Why then the title of this piece? Well from the day I got involved in blogging, I wanted to make my WebPages with a bat theme.. but then I discovered the unfortunate moniker… MOONBATS… there is nothing worse than a true moonbat, they argue from feelings and without reason. Man I despise moonbats. And the unfortunate part is that it's a slight against all the bats out there. Bats are so much more beneficial and productive than socialist liberals.

Thanks for listening and letting me get this off my chest.
