Revisionist History

One of the things that irk me the most in our society today is the attempt by the self proclaimed PC police to revise that which they find offensive. Selectwoman Sarah Peake of Provincetown, Mass. wanted to remove an oil painting of the Pilgrims voting on the Mayflower Compact in the 1600s from city hall because it doesn't have any women or American Indians participating in the process.

Well after reading this story, one would think that Selectwoman Peake had some unknown insight into this historic event that even historians don't. We're there Women or Indians even involved in the Mayflower Compact? Anyone with just a modicum of historical education could tell you that at the time women seen as created by God for man's benefit, and for him to subjugate. Neither would the pilgrims have even thought about including Indians in the affair, as it was not seen as pertaining to them.

Must we continue to attempt to revise history until it meets our current "standards" of political correctness, even if truth is the first casualty?
